Follow Our Club’s Milestones

Since 1956, the Colonial Rottweiler Club has been at the forefront of promoting the Rottweiler through sport, education, and responsible stewardship. Built by passionate members and unforgettable dogs, our history is filled with milestones that helped define the breed in the United States. 1970
Code of Ethics

First Code of Ethics approved (and later revised several times).

1971
Archives Established

Original archives included newsletters, OFA printouts, and binders of titled dogs. (Archives lost later, re-established in 2006 — note for extended timeline.)

1972
CRC Rescue League Established

Created to support rehabilitation and placement of Rottweilers. Funds set aside for medical, boarding, and rehoming.

1974
Competitive Milestones

CRC fulfills Plan OA Sanctioned Match requirements.

1975
AKC Approves Obedience Classes

Gains AKC approval to hold independent obedience classes.

1976
First Sweepstakes

CRC holds its first Sweepstakes event.

1977
CRC Becomes Incorporated

Official incorporation in the State of New Jersey.

1981
New Annual Awards

CRC establishes two significant recognitions: Distinguished Service Award &  Junior Showmanship Award

1982
Independent Sweepstakes & Obedience Trial

First fully independent Sweepstakes & Obedience Trial held the day before the Annual Specialty.

1983
Temperament Testing

CRC hosts its first ATTS test in Ithaca, NY. 26 Rottweilers tested; 22 passed.

1985
Tracking Match

First AKC Sanctioned Tracking Match successfully completed.

Record Numbers

CRC reaches 200 Rottweilers at events and 400 active members.
